Indigenous Artisan Soap: Ellen Profeit

$12.00

This beadwork was handed down through the family and is now being taken care of by her great-granddaughter, who cherishes it and has a deep respect for the art form. There are very few pieces of beadwork remaining of this matriarch that passed away in 1962.

Joella has combined two of her passions: traditional First Nations beadwork and handcrafted soaps. This new unscented soap line showcases beadwork from Northern Tutchone women from the community of Mayo. Each soap includes a brief story about the artist and the traditional piece that was photographed. Some of the artwork is very old, belonging in collections of their family members, others are from more recent beadwork. The beading comes from moccasins, clothing, scissor cases and even a beautiful baby belt. Each soap shares just a snippet of this beautiful craft. There are eight different soaps, each packaged in biodegradable plastic and a reusable hand stamped bag.
